Summary/Objective
Fabrication involves laying out, cutting, fitting, measuring and welding metals to create the desired shape or object. This is highly detailed work and requires the Welder/Fabricator to be knowledgeable of many techniques and tools.
Essential Functions
- Work as a team with other crew members.
- Maintain an organized and efficient work area.
- Perform the proper daily preventative maintenance as required.
- Ensure that each weld is per industry standard and of the highest quality.
- Determine when a weld is not sufficient enough and will need to be reworked.
- Utilize the proper safety gear/equipment that is provided.
- Change out welding wire and shielding gas when needed.
- Work closely with the shop foreman to determine what order material will need to be welded.
- Help keep all other areas of the department clean and organized.

Competencies
- Ability to follow directions closely with minimal supervision

- Proper use of basic hand tools (hammer, wrench, tape measure)
- Good communication skills
- Basic understanding of the working/moving parts of different types of welders
- Ability to read shop drawings, blue prints and recognize welding symbols
- Basic math and mechanical aptitude
- Ability to operate forklift
Work Environment:
The majority of welding will take place in a covered, non-conditioned environment in which noise levels can be very high. There may be some assigned tasks that are exposed to the elements of all types of weather.
Preferred Education and Experience
- 1 year in fabrication environment
- 1 year MIG welding experience
- 1 year SMAW welding experience

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to be very active and constantly requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 60 pounds.
