Technician

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Quality Control Technician is responsible to safely perform tasks involving some physical labor for assisting Precast Concrete Product Production. Candidate will be responsible for performing tests as required on raw materials in process components and final product. Participating in tests, inspections, processing methods and material qualifications. Use of a diverse range of hand tools and testing equipment.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Quality Control Technician include, but are not limited to:

Equipment/Tool Operation
  • Capable of operating multiple pieces of construction tools and equipment used in testing precast concrete manufacturing.
  • Operate all equipment in a safe and appropriate manner
  • Perform daily maintenance, cleaning and safety checks of equipment to ensure smooth operation
  • Clean, lubricate and refill the equipment as necessary
  • Perform daily plastic concrete tests and compressive strength testing on hardened concrete specimens
  • Perform daily pre-pour and post-pour inspections of products
  • Perform prestressing inspection tasks
  • Marking of all products.
  • Operate equipment on company property, maintaining proper awareness of one’s surroundings
  • Maintain clear and precise record keeping according to ACI, PCI, DOT and Coreslab Structures requirements.
  • Perform duties safe and efficiently
  • Must ensure a solid understanding of, and comply with the principles of the company’s Code of Ethics
    Must examine situations in light of the principles of the Code of Ethics
Safety
  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture
  • Attend daily and weekly safety meetings and inspections
  • Work with Safety Department to investigate damage, incidents or near misses and ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Company’s Safety Program
  • Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.
Teamwork
  • Participate as a vital team member, and contribute towards the success of the organization, which may involve the provision of other technical and administrative support, as required
  • Duties are performed generally as part of a crew that should function as one unit
  • Working with production to correct deficiencies and improve overall quality
  • Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives, as required
  • If assigned to another crew, the physical demands are similar and proper operation will be followed
Qualifications
Education, Training and Certifications
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred
  • Strong math skills, college credits a plus
  • ACI/PCI certifications strongly preferred
  • CT Driver’s License
  • OSHA 10
Work Experience
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years’ experience within the construction industry
  • 2 to 3 years’ experience working for a construction material testing company
Technical Knowledge
  • Knowledge construction materials, construction processes and industry requirements
  • Strong math skills, college credits a plus
  • Ability to read and understand production drawings
  • Ability to attain within 60 days Quality Control Certifications including, but not limited to, ACI, Concrete Field Testing Technician and PCI Levels 1 & 2
  • Competent computer skills in MS Office

Working Conditions
  • Overtime as required
  • Work is performed in an indoor/outdoor settings, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity and winter conditions
  • Climbing Ladders for inspecting product
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 80 LBS on a regular basis
  • Walking several miles per day and standing for long periods of time
  • Bending, pulling, twisting, squatting and pushing
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required
  • Use of long sleeves and appropriate headgear is recommended
  • Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements
