Project Overview
Coreslab Structures was entrusted to deliver a critical parking solution for the Phoenix Children’s Hospital, a project requiring meticulous planning and a sensitive architectural approach. Located adjacent to a main public entrance, the garage demanded a design that was not only highly functional but also welcoming and visually integrated with the existing medical campus. Partnering with contractor DPR Construction and architect Hobbs & Black, Coreslab provided a precast concrete solution that successfully balanced stringent logistical demands with an inviting aesthetic.
The four-level, 156,766-square-foot precast structure provides parking for over 600 vehicles, directly supporting patients, families, and staff. The total precast solution, including the structural frame and architecturally formed spandrels, allowed for a rapid and safe construction schedule in a challenging, active hospital environment. The primary benefit of the precast concrete solution for Phoenix Children’s Hospital was the ability to achieve an accelerated, safe construction schedule in a highly sensitive environment. Located next to an active main entrance, the site demanded minimal disruption and utmost safety. The off-site manufacture of all components allowed site preparation to occur concurrently with fabrication, while the rapid erection of the total precast system significantly reduced on-site construction time, ensuring the garage was operational quickly and safely for the hospital community.
Beyond speed, precast concrete provided the architectural versatility essential to meet the project’s aesthetic goals. The design required a structure that felt welcoming, not utilitarian. This was masterfully achieved through the use of custom-radiused precast spandrels, which softened the building’s appearance and created an inviting entry sequence. The inherent flexibility of precast design allowed for the seamless integration of these elegant curves and provided a robust substrate for the attached metal screen elements, creating a visually dynamic facade that complements the hospital campus.
